The Government announced their plans to shake up the exam systems today.

Here are the key announcements.

  • GCSE’s in core subjects, English, Maths and Science, to be replaced by English Baccalaureate Certificate.
  • These will begin in September 2015.
  • First exams in 2017.
  • Current intake of year 7’s will be the first to take the new English Baccalaureate Certificate.
  • Extended later to include History, Geography and Modern Languages.
  • Terminal exam at the end of the course.
  • One tier to exam all candidates.
  • One exam board per exam.

These are the key headline points. In a follow up blog I will attempt to explain the relevance and significance of these proposed changes.

Are they really needed or is it political rhetoric?
